Bench. Moist, relatively level tundra at base i
of Mesa. Cotton-grass tussock meadow dominated
by Eriophorum spp., other graminoids, Eguisetum
spp., lichens, Saxifraga spp., and low-growing
herbs and shrubs. Collected in dry area.
Occurs in dense tufts; spikelets purple tinged;
lemmas glabrous except at base and margins,
cleft with awns projecting from base of cleft.
